In a world where refrigeration and preservation services are high on demand, packaging engineers are working round the clock to provide new leak detection equipment and the method in food preservation as shown below.
1. Chemical detection method
This method involves the detection of elements such as hydrogen and helium. Occasionally, packed foods contain food preservative gases such as helium. For this reason, in case there is a puncture in the container the gas in the tin will find its way out.
As a result, helium detector is used to sniff out the gas and determine where there is a leak in the packed tins. This method is commonly used due to its effective abilities and the ease of functionality.
2. Pressure/Vacuum method
When preservative gases are introduced in the packed food, pressure is applied in order to effectively fill the container with the required amount of pressure. For this reason, the leak detection equipment heavily relies on the available pressure in measuring the presence of leaks in packed food products.
These gadgets are capable of measuring the percentage in the tins and therefore determine whether there is a leakage. 3. Dry Penetration Method (PT)

The leak detection equipment mainly relies on the use of surface tension. A peneterant is applied on the testing material then left for a period before a developer solution is later added to enable the flaw to be invisible.
4. Acoustic method
This method involves the use of acoustic waves. These waves are capable of incorporating high-pressure gases that determine fluid leaks. Nevertheless, ultrasound microphone gadgets technicalities are required. The gadget is capable of determining the loudest part on the container from the acoustic waves produced.
However, the leak detection equipment requires to be used in conjunction with other operational leak detection methods in order to function effectively.
5. Altitude simulation leak detection method
Leak detection methods are applied in all areas and altitude tests. Travelling across mountains and areas with extreme attitude levels requires carrying food products that will not be affected by the attitude levels.

The criteria used involves the use of wet and dry chamber where food samples are tested in different atmospheric conditions. This process certifies that the food product have gone through all types of conditions and can endure in any given condition
